Against the backdrop of globalization and mutual learning among civilizations, language and cultural education is not only about knowledge transmission, but also an important bridge for young people from different countries to understand each other, communicate emotionally, and build friendships. Learning foreign languages and understanding different cultures are essential conditions for becoming a “global citizen.” The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages states that “the diversity of languages and cultures is not an obstacle to communication, but a source of mutual understanding and complementarity.”
To promote in-depth interaction among Chinese and international youth in language learning, cultural experience, academic exchange, and practical innovation—and to enhance understanding of Chinese language, history, art, folklore, and contemporary development—Zhejiang Normal University will host the 2026 International Summer School “Language and Culture Education Workshop.”
This workshop integrates practice with coursework, combining language acquisition, cultural immersion, intangible cultural heritage experiences, city visits, and cross-cultural dialogue. It aims to provide young participants from Europe and the Americas with an immersive, high-quality, and interactive learning platform about China. Leveraging the university’s strong foundation in international education, excellent faculty, and extensive global partnerships, the program is committed to enhancing participants’ cross-cultural communication skills, global perspectives, and humanistic literacy, while fostering deeper understanding and academic interest in language and cultural education.
The workshop emphasizes “learning language, understanding culture, engaging in practice, and broad exchange,” with diverse and rich content, including:
